Happy Anniversary to the Romance Slam Jam family
I am jumping with joy to bring you this month’s interviews. Our first, Ms Emma Rogers, needs no introduction. And if you dare say you don’t know her….well…I have a vampire who’ll come and tell you just who she is. Ms. Emma, thank you so much for taking the time to do this. Will you share your memories of the first RSJ, please?
Ms. Emma: Francis Ray, author and RSJ Co-Founder, had the bright idea to “do something” for the black authors who were coming to the DFW area to attend a Romantic Times Convention in March of 1995. These black authors did not generally draw fans at this mainstream romance conference in the nineties.
Ashira Tosihwe, and I, as co-founders, planned the first RSJ in 1995 at Black Images Book Bazaar in Dallas, Texas. Our original purpose was to bring readers of black romance together with black romance writers. The theme was the “Power and Pain of Black Love,” something Ashira Tosihwe borrowed from a Nikki Giovanni poem.
Francis, Ashira, and I launched an event that was momentous for the authors and readers. Donna Hill, Gwynne Forster and a few other authors were thrilled to be the headliners for the evening and to get so much attention from admiring fans. It was a love fest, which laid the groundwork for subsequent RSJ’s - an even bigger RSJ at Black Images in 1996 and a very successful cruise to and conference in the Bahamas in 1997. The baby that was birthed in Dallas, Texas has grown up and left home in the capable hands of committed teams of authors and book club volunteers.
Dyanne: I know we have the history of how RSJ started on the website. But there’s a little more to it than that. Would you mind telling the rest of the RSJ Family a little about how the entire idea
took life?
Ms. Emma: - R E S E P C T - We thought the publishers of these highly successful black romance novels were not respectful of the authors of this genre. From our vantage point, we did not see the publisher with marketing and promotion plans for this popular line of literature. Booksellers were not offered any coop advertising contracts from publishers for this money making genre as were offered other genres. Black Images was having complete sale through with books orders. We ordered titles by the dozens to carton quantities. We had a very high regard for the authors in this genre. They were filling a need for literature with positive black images. Therefore, as a result of our high regard for the authors, we decided to market and promote them using our own dollars. We did not get one cent from any publisher for our events in the mid-nineties. Due to our efforts and black romance popularity, publishers eventually began to become financially involved in RSJ. In 2000 they helped to underwrite luncheons, dinners and other planned events.
Dyanne: Ms. Emma, what area would you like to see the conference moving into?
Ms. Emma: I’d love for it to continue to grow by attracting more black authors and black romance readers. Continue to try something new such as publicizing the genre in traditional creative writing programs. Continue to have a community service component connected to each event. Continue to keep us all connected via social networking on the Internet, texting, and through other forms of new technology. Look for a university to maintain a data base of authors and books since the genre is relatively new. Graduate students can obtain at least a Masters Degree documenting the growth.
Dyanne: Well, at least part of your dream has come true in a small way. One AA chose to do her thesis on African American romances. She traveled to Mississippi to visit Genesis Press and to Bolingbrook to visit me.
Sorry about that little detour. We’re back on track with RSJ now. For me going to the RSJ is like going to a big family reunion. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so much love even in my biological family. What about you?
Ms. Emma: A. We Are Family - Family Reunion - It is so wonderful to witness the love and camaraderie at a Romance Slam Jam. I love to observe the connections reader:reader; reader: writer….. For some, the RSJ is the only time we might communicate. I am still in touch with readers and authors I met at RSJ’s over the years.
Dyanne: How does it feel to have an award that is so treasured by the writers named after you?
Ms. Emma: What an honor to have The Emma Awards named after me. Brenda Woodbury (avid reader), Brenda Jackson (author), and Jackie Perkins (Montsho Books store owner) unanimously decide on it. I can still hear and visualize Jackie Perkins at the 2001 RSJ in Orlando, Florida as she presented me with a special award. Jackie stated that “the motion pictures has the Oscars, Broadway has the Tonys, television has the Emmys, and Romance Slam Jam has The Emmas. I had no idea that my dedication to making things happen for the authors would be regarded so highly. What a blessing and honor. I am so grateful.
Dyanne: Can you tell us a little about how your life is the eleven months before each RSJ?
Ms. Emma: Hallelujah! – In the beginning, we were in constant contact with the authors, publishers and fans – marketing and promoting the big event. When the RSJ transitioned to the planning model of author, readers (via a book club), and bookstore in 2000, it relieved Francis Ray, Ashira Tosihwe and myself of a great deal of planning and coordination. Now I help market and promote the RSJ by word of mouth and email. I encourage everyone I encounter to visit www.romanceslamjamconference.com. This new model with an author(s) at the helm of the RSJ provided an opportunity for new leadership, growth and expansion. When the authors took charge of the event, they introduced writing workshops, and pitched appointments with agents and publishers. These days as a founder, I look forward to writing the Message to Attendees that always includes a little American history.
Dyanne: Any last words you’d like to leave the RSJ family with on this the 15th anniversary?
Ms. Emma: I am truly thankful that RSJ is now a 501 ©3 non-profit, tax-exempt organization under leadership of the very capable and dedicated hands of Deatri King-Bey and committee members Dyanne Davis and Barbara Keaton
Continue to support the legacy of the RSJ. It is my hope that years from now there will be students completing master thesis and doctoral dissertations on the black romance genre. We need to let future generations know that black love was in the beginning, Continue to be the authentic voice of our stories.
“For in the end, we will only conserve what we love.
We will love only what we understand.
We will understand only what we are taught.”
Baba Dioum, Senegalese environmentalist from 1968 speech.
One Love, One God, One Aim, One Destiny,

Interview with Founder Ashira Tosihwe
Next up we have Ashira Tosihwe, another founder of Romance Slam Jam, Ashira will be our bookseller for the cruise, so please show her lots of love and support. (Buy all the stock she brings, that would be great) Ashira, I’ve really enjoyed talking with you. Thank you for allowing me to interview you for this anniversary addition. Can you share your own personal memories of the first conference?
Ashira: That night, back in 1995, everybody was tingling with excitement. Emma Rodgers, Francis Ray and I had been watching the African American Romance genre grow by leaps and bounds. There were approximately fifteen African American romance writers who were in town(Dallas, Texas), for the Romance Writers Conference, who had agreed to come by Black Images Book Bazaar, to meet and greet the readers. Our store was filled with readers who were ecstatic to meet their favorite romance author. The popularity of this genre grew so rapidly, that a special section of the store was dedicated exclusively for the romance genre.
Dyanne: Did you envision fifteen years ago that what you all started would still be going on?
Ashira: Well, it was like birthing a baby, and having hopes and aspirations for its growth and success. As this genre grew, so did the bond that connected the readers and writers. Many of the writers in later years maintained contact with their readers via the internet. The fact that RJS has endured over the years can be attributed to the dedication and hard work of the writers, conference planners, and the loyalty of the readers.
Dyanne: As a book seller how do you see the romance genre in terms of its popularity
Ashira: This genre is very popular. New writers are continuing to appear on the scene. There are also readers, believe it or not, who have not been reached. So, the opportunities for future growth is vast. The continuation of future RJS events will contribute to this growth.
Dyanne: What's on the horizon for you?
Ashira: After Black Images closed in 2007, the final chapter of its 30 year history, I decided to take some time to rest, reflect and renew. I then moved to South Florida. I hope to eventually begin connecting our community, especially the youth, with the vast amount of knowledge of our history, culture and the sheer literary genus our people possess. It is my hope that this 15 year old project will continue to grow and reach new vista with new readers, writers, and inspiration for young people to learn the craft.
Dyanne: I am going to miss not being on the cruise but I’m really going to miss not seeing all of the founders together for the 15th anniversary. I hope this SJ is as memorable for you as the very first one.

Book Talk
I think I'm going to call this segment Book Talk. We're going to start it off with a bang by saying a big, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! t0, BRENDA JACKSON, ON MAKING NEW YORK TIMES AND USA TODAY. Way to go. We're all very proud of you.
That great news takes us into our book discussion. I've been asking authors and readers to send the titles of new books, especially ones written by members of the family. But if you happen to hear of a book that you think RSJ would like to know about, let us know.
This month I appealed to Marlive, some one most of you probably know as she does author promotions and reviews for Grits.com. She's going to give us the scoop on new books she's read.
So Marlive, tell the RSJ Family a little about you.
Marlive: I'm fondly known among literary circles (online and offline) as -thegrits.com, an acronym for "the girl reading in the south.com!" I'm an online Book Marketer/Promoter and my fascination with technology (the Internet in particular)and love of literature (emphasis on African American Literature) is the reason TheGRITS.com exist today!
Before becoming a full time online book marketer,I was a classroom teacher and school librarian for eight years in North Texas. While working as a librarian, I launched TheG.R.I.T.S. Online Reading Club, a leading online reading and book promotion community for adult readers and writers on New Year's Day in 2000. Then the award winning G.R.I.T.S. Kidz Book Club, an online book club for kids, parents and adult care-givers of children who desire to discuss and learn more about African American literature (and other multicultural literature) written for young people came next in 2001. The success of those two online reading communities and my desire to meet the unique web publicity needs of authors and self-publishers is the reason I launched TheGRITS COM Literary Service full-time in 2003. So for the last 8 years TheGRITS.com with its reading groups, online book campaigns, virtual book tours, and podcast network have become a place where books, readers, literary professionals and the Internet connect!
When I am not working with online book promotions, I'm a part-time Continuing Education Program Manager over Adult Basic Education (ESL/ESOL and GED) and Arts & Leisure programs at Lone Star College-Kingwood. I also teach their eBusiness Basics class for business owners interested in doing business on the World Wide Web.
Dyanne: I'd say you're not only one busy lady but one that writers need to become familiar with. So tell us about some books you'd recommend to the family.
Marlive: I've read some great new romances out by some excellent writers I have read over the years:
MIAMI ATTRACTION by Elaine Overton
As Miami's most celebrated vet, Dusty Warren can have his pick of any woman. But growing up on the road still makes him feel like an outsider in the city's elite circles. Then Mikayla Shroeder shows up at his ranch with her mangy mutt, and Dusty feels the white-hot spark of attraction. He knows Mikayla feels it,too, but the bestselling author is determined to stay aloof….
Mikayla left her traumatic past behind to start over in a new town. She isn't prepared for the charismatic and compassionate animal doctor…or the untamed passion that takes them both by surprise. Animal attraction is one thing. But to allow this man into her heart as her protector, her lover, her soul mate? That's a wild sanctuary she never thought was possible—until now.
KISSED BY A CARRINGTON by Linda Hudson-Smith
Pro-basketball star Houston Carrington likes his life just the way it is: fame, fortune and freedom. But Kelly Charleston tempts the foot loose playboy to break his number-one rule—flings without strings. The time he spent in the sexy sports doctor's company is forever seared in his memory…and now she's just signed with his team!
Wary of love, Kelly has managed to steer clear of romantic entanglements. But how could she forget the passionate encounter she shared with this seductive, irresistible Carrington brother? And now that she's under contract with the Texas Cyclones, she's in danger of losing something she swore she'd never give up—her heart. Especially when Houston awakens her fantasy of a fabulous future together.
DREAM KEEPER by Gail McFarland
This compelling sequel to "Dream Runner" follows a young couple desperately trying to start a family, facing countless setbacks and struggling to keep their marriage together.
CHOCOLATE GOODIES by Jacquelin Thomas
Coco Stanley can't believe the way her high-end chocolate specialty shop has taken off. But her own exotic appetite isaroused when the most mouthwatering confection she's ever seen walks through the door. He's Ransom Winters, self-made millionaire and compassionate youth counselor to the troubled kids in their L.A. neighborhood.
Ransom's proud of his program for at-risk teens. And once he meets the owner of Coco's Chocolat, the Grammy-winning songwriter gets another brainstorm. But jobs for his boys aren't the only thing Ransom wants from Coco. Now if only he can get the relationship-wary chocolatier to say yes to a lifetime of sweet bliss…starting on Valentine's Day! Because chocolate can be fleeting, but love is forever.
Thank you Marlive. Where can readers read more about you?
Again I issue the invitation....No, make that a plea. Authors send us a brief blurb of your next book. Readers, if you've read a good AA romance and we haven't mentioned it here, send me the info please.
On that note I'll do what I'm asking you to do. I have a new book myself, Lest Ye Be Judged written by my F.D. Davis persona, the third in my vampire series. (And yes, I know the family's feelings on vampires) But I'm willing to do what I've asked the rest of you to do.
Until n

Interview with Debut Author Angela Kay Austin

Dyanne: Angela, Congratulation on your debut release, Love's Chance, with Red Rose Publishing which released in February. (Plug) So tell the RSJ family a little about Angela.
Angela: Thank you, Dyanne. I'm so proud of Love's Chance. It wasn't my first manuscript, but it was the first one published. It's set in central Pennsylvania, and it covers so many experiences that I saw, and heard of while living there. I think the RSJ family will find it warm and interesting.
About me, hmmm, well, I'm originally from Tennesee, but I left the area years ago to attend Howard University in Washington, D.C. I continued on to grad school, and I just never left the D.C. area. Eventually, I will return to Tennessee. I miss it a lot.
Dyanne: How long have you been writing?
Angela: I've been writing forever. I've always wanted to be able to tell stories that drew people in, and make them forget about whatever they were going through.
Dyanne: Making people forget what they’re going through is a great thing about writing, especially romance. How long have you been a fan of the romance genre?
Angela: Ever since my mother dropped her Reader's Digest books on the coffee table, and I devoured the short stories, I've loved women's fiction, and that progressed to YA romance, and here we are. I love telling stories of all types of love. Where families, friends, and love relationships can survive all types of things vs. the Kleenex mentality.
Dyanne: If you could have one wish(other than you wish they'd stop picking on the president and world peace) what would it be?
Angela: My one wish? Honestly, it would be for some of the crimes I see committed against children to end. I have no children, but I absolutely love my niece and nephews, and I could never imagine the type of grief any harm to them would bring to me. Every time I turn on the news it breaks my heart to see another child harmed.
Dyanne: Good wish, Angela. Children are my weakness. Do you have a website or blog where readers can go to learn more about you?
Angela: Yes, they can reach me through my website at www.AngelaKayAustin.com, and they can click on My Blog at the top of the page. There they can keep up with the latest on me. Of course, they can visit me on Facebook, Twitter or MySpace as well.
Thanks so much, Dyanne, for allowing me to visit with RSJ family today.
Dyanne: Family, we’ve given you quite a list of new books to put on your reading list. Since Dee and I can’t possibly keep up with all of the new books coming out we need your help. This is to ALL of you, authors and readers. Please send your upcoming books info and I’ll start posting the books even if you’re not scheduled to do an interview. Our aim is to bring good books to the family. Until next month when hopefully I will have a surprise for you.

Interview with Author Michelle Monkou

Dyanne: Michelle, hello and thank you for talking to the RSJ family. I also want to give you a big thank you and for providing the tote bags for the RSJ family that they will be given on the cruise. That was a super fantastic gift.
Along with the sometimes crazy questions I ask authors I've decided that this would be a good place to also spotlight the books the authors in the family are putting out. So why don't you tell us what you're doing and especially tell us about the books you have coming out this year.
Michelle: In August 2009, I redirected 100% of my efforts to my writing career, leaving behind the day job of a legislative analyst. At the same time, I also stepped into the presidency of Romance Writers of America, a 10,000 member organization. I also have teen kids, a husband with whom I’m about to celebrate our 20th year anniversary, and a cat that is as moody as me.
This February I’m happy to announce my 13th title – Trail of Kisses - under the Harlequin Kimani imprint. This story is part of the Ladies of Distinction series which features sorority sisters after college. In October, my release – The Millionaire’s Ultimate Catch, is featured as part of the hunky Kimani Hotties line up.
Dyanne: Happy anniversary to you and your husband. Bill and I will be celebrating our 40th in a few months. As I interview you I'm thinking about our president (USA) and wondering right at this moment if you're really feeling him?
Michelle: I’m proud of our president. However in my position, I know that I don’t have to deal with such enormous responsibilities. I think that President Obama and I have a passion and love for what we do. We will make the best decisions that we are capable of making.
Dyanne: I can say with a certainty that the RSJ family wishes both you and President Obama an easier tenure. Now for a little fun. Guess what? I've been given the power (Seriously) to grant the wishes of those I find most deserving. Convince me you're deserving and then tell me your wish. And world peace has been taken.
Michelle: Hmm. I’m not a goody two shoes. I’m not a Florence Nightingale type. I’m not a Mother Theresa type. So, as far as deserving—quite simply, I’m loyal, good natured, and occasionally generous. I wish a larger percentage of our youth would be avid readers.
Dyanne: As I told Kim, your wish has been granted. I have that same wish. Now back to the writing life. Where are you in the writing game?
Michelle: I think it would be shortsighted or a narrow focus to pinpoint a position in this writing game. Just like any board game, you can take two steps forward and five steps back. You can start at the bottom and then shoot to the top only to get knocked back a couple levels. So I don’t obsess about where I am. I work with what I’m in control of, which is the product. I can write and develop my skills to tell my stories. The marketing, the placement on shelves, the climb up the mountain, well, those are incidentals. Keeping such a perspective allows me to be calm and happy.
Dyanne: You talk like a writer who has her head on straight. Good. How did you get started with your writing career?
Michelle: I always wrote as a child because I loved reading and wanted to create my own stories. In the early 90s, a co-worker told me about a writing group, which was the DC chapter of Romance Writers of America. I joined and began learning about the craft. I also enjoyed the social networking. It took several years to develop the discipline and to shift the focus from treating my writing as a hobby to actually pursuing a career as a writer. In 2002, my first contemporary romance story was published as Open Your Heart. Since then, I haven’t stopped writing those stories.
Dyanne: Give us a little peep into your non writing life.
Michelle: I’m so busy with my writing life that my non-writing life is squeezed in or scheduled way in advance. I love to travel. So each year, my family and my brother’s family travel to Barbados to vacation. I also am a movie buff and can be found with my daughter watching movies on the weekend. Now that we have the Beatles Rock Band, the family plays together. I’m the singer. Can’t be bothered with playing the guitar or drums.
Dyanne: It’s always fun for me to find out what writers do besides write. Michelle, thank you again for taking time out to talk with us. Can you give us links to where the RSJ family can reach you?
Dyanne, thank you so much for this opportunity. I can be reached at http://michellemonkou.com, http://myspace.com/michellemonkou, http://facebook.com/michellemonkou, http://twitter.com/michellemonkou

Interview with Author Kimberly Kaye Terry

Are you all getting excited about the cruise? It’s going to be fantastic. Don’t forget to bring a couple of items that hopefully you won’t need. Aloe Vera gel, Noxzema (do they still make that?) in case of sunburn. And yes, we do burn. Something for gastrointestinal issues (both ends) (Smile) and something in case you become seasick.
What a way to bring you three exciting interviews. Sorry, but I’m a mother and a worrier. I want you all to have the most fantastic vacation of your lives. Our first interview is with Kimberly Kaye Terry.
Dyanne: Kimberly, hello and thank you for talking to the RSJ family. First off I want to congratulate you on not only being up for an Emma, but for also being up for an award from RT. Good luck to you in both contests. Along with the sometimes crazy questions I ask authors I've decided that this would be a good place to also spotlight the books the authors in the family are putting out. So why don't you tell us what you're doing and especially tell us about the books you have coming out this year.
Kim: Hello Dyanne, thank you for the invitation to chat! I feel honored and blessed to have had The Sweet Spot nominated for both an Emma as well as the Romantic Times Reviewer’s Choice award; thank you so much for the congratulations!

Okay, so what I’m doing this year is writing, writing and more writing, LOL. Last year I contracted with Harlequin Kimani and Arabesque to write four novels and one novella. My novella, titled Chocolate Truffles (featuring a Baptist girl who finds love with a Jewish hero) will appear in a holiday-themed anthology along with two amazing authors, Beverly Jenkins and Adrianne Byrd, in October of this year. My first Kimani, titled Hot To Touch, (which is an interracial story as well, a steamy romance featuring a journalist named Emma by the way, LOL, and the hero, Shane, who is a Smoke Jumper) releases December of this year. The following year my trilogy, titled Wyoming Wilde, will release in back-to-back months, February, March and April, of 2011 and I’m super excited about this awesome beginning for my family dynasty! The series is centered around three men who grew up as brothers, although they are all of different races, who own a ranch outside of Landers, Wyoming. Boy am I having fun writing each one of their stories! I’m currently finishing the first story, featuring Nate and Althea, and this one has a little bit of suspense thrown into the sexy…my favorite type of book to write :)
Dyanne: You’re certainly busy, but it’s heartening to know that you’re having fun. Kim, I know the RSJ family wants me to ask this question. I can hear their voices. For those hot steamy scenes, are there any G-rated tips you can give us for your inspiration?
Kim: Hmmmm. G-rated. From me?! Awww, come on Dyanne, that’s asking the impossible! Seriously, I will say that any author writing sexy scenes should feel comfortable in what she’s writing. If she doesn’t, it will come out forced and not natural sounding. I think if you are in-tuned with your characters, where they are emotionally in the scene, the love scenes like any other scene, will flow naturally. Throw on some Luther, kick back, have fun with it and just let your imagination take flight;)
Dyanne: LOL. You did a good job of giving me a G-rated answer. Guess what? I've been given the power (Seriously) to grant the wishes of those I find most deserving. I've already granted Michelle Monkou her wish. I'd love to grant yours also. Convince me you're deserving and then tell me your wish. And like I told Michelle, world peace has been taken.
Kim: I’m a naughty girl, Dyanne. I don’t know that I can convince you that I’m deserving of your supernatural abilities! But, if I were, my wish would be that everyone (myself included as I sometimes forget) ascribe to one of my favorite quotes. It was penned by Dr. Maya Angelou, “Be grateful for all things and present in all things.” Sometimes it’s easy to grateful. It’s not always easy to be present. This part of the quote took me much longer to grasp. Being present for me is enjoying every moment of this sometimes crazy, sometimes disappointing, but always awesome journey, we call writing.
Dyanne: Great answer and deserving of having a wish granted. We’ll talk after you fulfill your promise. (Shhh)Now back to the writing life. Where are you in the writing game? How many books do you have out now?
Kim: In the writing game I’ve had fourteen novels published, with a handful of those being novellas. My first book, which I call the book of my heart, Love’s Redemption, released January of 2006, with a small ebook publisher. I’ve since gotten the rights back.
Dyanne: How did you get started with your writing career?
Kim: I wrote my first book when my husband was deployed to Afghanistan. It was a very hard time in many ways. My daughter was a toddler, husband deployed, and I had recently suffered another miscarriage. I was blessed then and now because my daughter is my joy. As I wrote my first book (it took me about a year, as I was and still am, a full time mommy) she helped keep the sadness at bay for me. Fast forward a few years, and I still call myself a full time mommy first, and then I’m a full time author :)
Dyanne: Very well said. I love the being a full time mommy first. IMHO it’s our most important job, and the most rewarding. Kim, Give us a little peep into your non-writing life.
Kim: Peep into my what?!...why Dyanne, I didn’t know you were a voyeur! LOL. Just kiddin’. What kind of interview would this be with me, Dyanne, if I didn’t say inappropriate things once in a while? I gotta keep you on your toes, lady ;) Okay, okay, I’ll behave! Well, when not writing, I’m usually chauffeuring the bratlett, aka my daughter, to ballet, tap, hip-hop and piano lessons! I also volunteer, weekly, as a counselor for a battered women’s group. I’m a part-time herbalist and grow a lot of cool herbs (of the legal variety) in my garden. I’m particularly proud of my rosemary. It started as a small bush and now takes up a full corner of my garden! I also take tap dancing classes and just finished taking a class on pole dancing! The hubby really liked me taking the pole dancing class. *ggg*
Dyanne: You’re right, you’re keeping me on my toes and I’m laughing. I don’t dare ask a follow up question but I’ll email you later about the herbs. (the legal variety.) The last two or three years you've been so busy with your writing career that I was wondering if you've had an time to relax.
Kim: I have been busy, Dyanne, but to me writing is my passion, and really doesn’t feel like work at times. I simply enjoy sharing the stories clamoring around in my head, with the world. It’s a blessing to have such wonderful readers who enjoy my work. However there are times when I’m so tired from racing through deadlines that I force myself to take a small break, and step away from my office! Those times are few, but they always help me feel refreshed and ready to hit it hard and heavy when I return…and no, Dyanne, I’m not being naughty with the whole hitting it hard and heavy, thing, I swear! Okay. Maybe I am. A little.
Dyanne: Kim, You wouldn’t be you if you weren’t being naughty. But you did good. Thank you again for taking time out to talk with us. Can you give us links to where the RSJ family can reach you?
Kim: No problem, it was fun! My website is www.kimberlykayeterry.com I’m also on facebook, where I can be found procrastinating, posting pictures of naked men, and general ruckusing, under Kimberly Kaye Terry. Come on by and be my friend!
Dyanne: Thanks Kim

Interview with Author Seressia Glass
Happy Valentine’s Day RSJ family. First off I want to congratulate all the authors who were nominated for an Emma. Good luck to you all. That brings to mind something that you may not be aware of, or haven’t given much thought to.
The nominations for, The Emma, are made by the readers, who have had the chance to read books by their favorite authors during the year and nominate them for the various categories. So, I’m issuing a challenge to the authors and the readers to get the titles of eligible books either Deatri or myself and we’ll pass them along in order for you to support the writers, and so you’ll stay on top of what’s new out there.
And no, before anyone ask that doesn’t mean that we will not pass along titles that are not being represented in the Emma awards. We’re extremely proud of ALL of our authors and wish them much success no matter the genre. And just to prove that point my first interview is with an Emma award winning romance author, Seressia Glass. She’s going to share a bit about her latest venture.
Dyanne: Seressia, Happy Valentine’s Day. I'm thrilled to be catching up with you and bringing the readers a taste of the first book in your brand new trilogy. Shadow Chase has such a beautiful cover and since I know what a fantastic writer you are I know the story is going to be truly amazing. Can you please give us some insider info on the other two books in the series. Also, please tell us where we can buy the books.
Seressia: Thanks, Dyanne! Shadow Blade releases 01/26/10 and Shadow Chase releases 07/27/10. They're available in both print and electronic format, so I can give you the Amazon link. As for what the first two books are about, the blurbs explain them much better than I can!
Here's the blurb for Shadow Blade:
For Kira Solomon, normal was never an option.
Kira’s day job as an antiquities expert, but her true calling is as a Shadowchaser. Trained from youth to be one of the most lethal Chasers in existence, Kira serves the Gilead Commission dispatching the Fallen who sow discord and chaos. Of course, sometimes Gilead bureaucracy is as much a thorn in her side as anything the Fallen can muster against her. Right now, though, she’s got a bigger problem. Someone is turning the city of Atlanta upside-down in search of a four-millennia-old Egyptian dagger that just happens to have fallen into Kira’s hands.
Shadow BladeThen there’s Khefar, the dagger’s true owner-a near-immortal 4000-year-old Nubian warrior who, Kira has to admit. looks pretty fine for his age. Joining forces is the only way to keep the weapon safe from the sinister Shadow force, but now Kira is in deep with someone who holds more secrets than she does, the one person who knows just how treacherous this fight is. Because every step closer to destroying the enemy is a step closer to losing herself to Shadow forever. . . .
Dyanne: Seressia, Do you have a blurb for Shadow Chase?
Seressia: LOL. Of course I do. Thanks for asking. Here's the blurb for Shadow Chase:
In a job like this, one mistake can cost you everything.
As a Shadowchaser, Kira Solomon has been trained to serve the Light, dispatch the Fallen, and prevent the spread of chaos. It’s a deadly job, and Kira knows the horror of spilling innocent blood. But now she has a new role, as the Hand of Ma’at, the Egyptian Goddess of Truth and Order, and an assignment that might just redeem her.
A fellow Shadowchaser has gone missing, and so has a unique artifact imbued with astonishing magic. Unless the Vessel of Nun is returned, it will cause destruction beyond anything the modern world has seen. Kira’s got a team at her back, including Khefar, a near-immortal Nubian warrior who’s already died for her once. But as complicated as her feelings for him are, they’re nothing compared to the difficulties of the task she faces. And the only way to defeat the enemy is to trust in a power she can barely control, and put her life—and her soul—on the line.
Dyanne: How in the world did you ever come up with this concept?
Seressia: I wanted to create a world in which the Universal Law is about Balance, Light and Shadow, Order and Chaos, and that everything--humans, demons, gods and goddesses--are arrayed somewhere on the Universal Balance. This mythology also explains the many fantastical creatures humans have claimed to see throughout history, and that not all demons or non-human magical beings are bad.
As for what's next, I'm working on the third Shadowchasers book, Shadow Fall. I'm also working on some romance proposals, both contemporary and paranormal. Nothing's sold yet, but if there's any news to share, I'll be sure to announce it on my website, Facebook and Twitter pages!
Dyanne: Seressia, thank you so much for this follow up interview. You’re a fantastic writer of contemporary romance and I expect no less from you in the paranormal world. Actually, I’ve already read your first paranormal and loved them. Once again, I’d like to thank you for taking time from your deadline to chat. Where can readers find you?
Seressia: You're welcome, Dyanne. Readers can find me at
